Reflection on 4 peoples blogs

Megan And Laura-King Tut

Introduction~ A description of the pharaoh is relevant, factual and correct. Time he/she ruled is correct.
Yes, I think that they had a good introduction. They told when he ruled, although they couldn't find the exact date anywhere, they found the same ruling period in a few places.

Pharaoh’s accomplishments ~ Clearly explains the important contributions the pharaoh made during his/her rule. Yes, they clearly explained an important contribution which was made but although it didn't get succeeded it was still quite an accomplishment to try and get it. The accomplishment was that he wanted more rights for women.

Architectural Achievements ~Clearly describes and explains the important buildings/monuments that were built during this time. Explain how evidence of their religious beliefs is shown in these buildings.
They told that he built a temple in Kawa. It shows that he did have a religion because he built a temple!

images ~ All images are relevant, interesting and of good quality (saved properly as a jpg). Images match narration throughout. We did put relevant and interesting pictures, although some of the pictures weren't that good quality. The images did match the narration though.

Narration ~ Voices are clear, loud and fluent with good intonation. It is obvious you have practiced your part before recording. No background noise. There voices were clear and loud and fluent, and it was quite obvious that they practiced because they didn't stutter on the words. There was no background noise throughout the narrative.

Transitions & Effects ~ Suitable transitions between the parts of the presentation are used throughout. Any effects used only enhance the message and are compatible with the image content. There were transitions and effects which were suitable. They didn't distract anybody from the voices, I don't think. We forgot to do it and that when we finally remembered, there were too many citations and too little time. So we couldn't get that done.

Ashika and Alvin- Nefertiti

Inttroduction~ A description of the pharaoh is relevant, factual and correct. Time he/she ruled is correct. The introduction isn't about the pharaoh but about ancient Egypt. The time period Nefertiti ruled in isn't in the introduction but it's only included at about 50 seconds into the video, when they really start talking about her.

Pharaoh’s accomplishments ~ Clearly explains the important contributions the pharaoh made during his/her rule. They don't talk about the accomplishments the queen/pharaoh made during her rule.

Architectural Achievements ~Clearly describes and explains the important buildings/monuments that were built during this time. Explain how evidence of their religious beliefs is shown in these buildings. They talk about the architecture that was built in her order. But didn't talk about how the religious beliefs are shown in the buildings.

Images ~ All images are relevant, interesting and of good quality (saved properly as a jpg). Images match narration throughout. The pictures match although some are cut off on the edges where words are. But the pictures were relevant to what they were talking about.

Narration ~ Voices are clear, loud and fluent with good intonation. It is obvious you have practiced your part before recording. No background noise. There was background noise but they still spoke loud enough for people to hear. Alvin spoke a bit too fast and sometimes you couldn't understand what he was talking about.

Transitions & Effects ~ Subtle transitions between the parts of the presentation are used throughout. Any effects used only enhance the message and are compatible with the image content. They didn't have any transitions. But the I-Movie still flowed.

Stephanie and Kennedy - Hatsheput

Introduction~ A description of the pharaoh is relevant, factual and correct. Time he/she ruled is correct. Yes. The time Hatsheput ruled in is clearly stated and what dynasty was said is also clear.

Pharaoh’s accomplishments ~ Clearly explains the important contributions the pharaoh made during his/her rule. They told the contributions made by the pharaoh during her rule.

Architectural Achievements ~Clearly describes and explains the important buildings/monuments that were built during this time. Explain how evidence of their religious beliefs is shown in these buildings. They told what buildings were built during her rule. They also told how Tutmosis (sp?) the third tore down any buildings built by her.

Images ~ All images are relevant, interesting and of good quality (saved properly as a jpg). Images match narration throughout. They images were relevant and were of good quality. Although when they had uploaded the video onto their blogs, they weren’t that good quality but they were fine in class.

Narration ~ Voices are clear, loud and fluent with good intonation. It is obvious you have practiced your part before recording. No background noise. They’re voices were mostly clear although you can hear a lot of volume change noise and clicking which kind of disturbed the speakers. Sometimes their voices seemed to get quieter.

Transitions & Effects ~ Subtle transitions between the parts of the presentation are used throughout. Any effects used only enhance the message and are compatible with the image content. There were transitions between every picture, which made the I-Movie flow.

Yu Ern and Tem - King Tut

Introduction~ A description of the pharaoh is relevant, factual and correct. Time he/she ruled is correct. Yes, They clearly said what period of time they ruled in.

Pharaoh’s accomplishments ~ Clearly explains the important contributions the pharaoh made during his/her rule. No. They didn't explain any accomplishments of which they had made during his rule.

Architectural Achievements ~Clearly describes and explains the important buildings/monuments that were built during this time. Explain how evidence of their religious beliefs is shown in these buildings. They didn't tell which building he had built, unless the pyramid in which the tomb was hidden counted.
Images ~ All images are relevant, interesting and of good quality (saved properly as a jpg). Images match narration throughout.

They did put relevant and interesting pictures, Almost every one of the pictures were of good quality except one or two. The images did match the narration though.

Narration ~ Voices are clear, loud and fluent with good intonation. It is obvious you have practiced your part before recording. No background noise. They're voices weren't all that clear, and the iMovie didn't really flow well together so they could have worked on that. There is background noise, which could have been avoided by going someplace elsewhere.

Transitions & Effects ~ Subtle transitions between the parts of the presentation are used throughout. Any effects used only enhance the message and are compatible with the image content. There weren't any transitions, which didn't really help the flow of the I-Movie.

Reflection of Pharoh iMovie

In Humanities, we were given a chance to experiment with our creativity skills. We had a choice of different Pharaohs and were told to choose one and make a movie out of pictures and voice-overs. My partner was Joseph Kilama and we decided to make our movie about Senusret the First.

The following is my evaluation of our movie with regards to the rubric:
Introduction = 4/5
Pharaoh's Achievements = 4/5

Architectural Achievements = 4/5
Images = 4/5
Narration = 4/5
Transitions and Effects = 5/5

Looking back on our i-movie production, there are things we would change, but over all we were able to present the information on our Pharoh in a good way. Joseph and I worked well together. We researched the Pharoh and shared our data at school. However, what didn't work was finding time to work with my partner over Chinese New Year to complete our project. In the end, we were able to complete the iMovie. I think we are both satisifed with the result.

City Connections

1) What did you do well on the project?

I did well on my project.  My slides contained alot of information .  I did a good job researching Washington D.C. and using the information that matched each slide title.  I was able to research the information without copying word for word.  I used lots of visuals on my slides to help explain each slide.  I enjoyed researching the images to put on the various slides.

2) What would you improve for future presentations/projects?

My visual powerpoint presentation was strong, but my delivery of the material could have been better.  For future presentations, I need to improve my presentation skills by looking at the audience and having a louder voice.  I should practice at home, before I present to the class and make sure I can pronounce all the words.

3) What did you learn about the presentation process that could include your individual preparation in addition to the presentations of others?

I learned that giving a presentation is not easy.  Even though I had researched the information, giving a speech in front of a class was scary.  I also learned that the powerpoint presentation can be an outline, and that I do not have to write down everyword I am going to say.  I will have to work on this skill.

4) What did you learn from the city presentations of others?

I learned a great deal about cities around the world.  The presentations opened my eyes to the various natural and man-made diasters that effect the cities we live in.   I started to see the different factors in the establishment and prosperity of a civilization.

5)  How did you meet each of the requirements from the rubric?

To be honest, I didn't see a rubric on this project before I started.  I had to use information from my sister.  I am not aware if 6B requirements were different than 6A.  I did try to find something on moodle before starting, but in the end I used my sister's format as a base for my project.

6) What is your analysis of your performance?

Overall I think I did a good job on my performance.  I was able to show-off my city, highlighting the various facts I researched.  I used the images feature on Google to add to the presentation by showing maps, flags, graphs and photos.

My Learning Profile

In humanities class we completed a Dominance Factor learning profile. This learning profile tested our dominant eye, ear, brain, hand, and foot. The theory is that once we know our profile, we can use the strategies suggested to improve our learning. I discovered that I'm a Profile D.

Profile D shows that I am logic dominant. Which means that I deal with details, the parts and the process of language and linear thought. I favor a step-by-step technique in learning a new skill.

It also shows that I am a visual/auditory learner and that I need to see and hear the details in order to learn. When I am stressed, I have trouble communicating my thoughts and ideas verbally and in writing.

I would like my teachers to know that I will benefit from sitting further back in class where I can doodle or move without bothering others. My biggest challenge may be the linear processing of information. I "can't see the forest for the trees." I prefer structured learning and I appreciate orderly sequencing of information.  I would also like them to know that I love to read library books. I also love to play outdoor games like soccer, four square, basketball, and dance.

The strategies that would help me in my learning are the following:
  • focus on the visual/auditory details - I need to hear and see all the details in order to learn
  • Integrated cross-lateral hand play like playing with clay, knitting, writing and drawing using the non-dominat hand
  • massaging the Temporal Mandibular Joint to aide in communication
  • Integrating art, music, freeform movement, and interpersonal/intrapersonal skills combined with learning a new skill will be highly beneficial
  • Brainstorm
  • Use pictures and symbol mind maps
  • Be physically active
  • Write poems and songs that contain rich images and don't ryhme
  • Play with free-form color painting, sculpture and dance
  • Role-play to understand the big picture

My Christmas vacation!

This year my family decided to have a local Christmas 'Staycation.' We played tourist in Kuala Lumpur. At first I thought it would be really boring, but I was surprised how much fun we had without getting in a car for a long road trip or going on a plane, no suitcases or passports or airport lines.

The first week we got ready for Christmas.  We went to the Pavilion to admire the lights and decorations and to buy last minute gifts.  We also managed to watch every Christmas movie that our family owns, total of ten.  One night, after a thunderstorm, we felt the house shake, like an earthquake.  We found out that a large tree had fallen on our backyard and tore down our back fence.  We spent the rest of the week watching the workers cut the tree into smaller pieces so they could remove it and repair the fence. Luckily we were at home.

Christmas was fun.  After a large family breakfast, that I helped make, we spent the morning opening presents.  We spent the afternoon rearranging and cleaning our bedrooms so we could enjoy our new gifts.  We all received vouchers for the movies in our stockings.  So we spent the second week watching Tron and Narnia. The week ended with the New Year's fireworks over the KL towers.

My final week of holidays was the most fun.  My brother and my sisters practiced magic tricks and we preformed a magic show for my parents that evening.  We also watched Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom at home, and also saw Gulliver's Travels at the Pavilion theater (and we also saw Mr. Sheflin).   We went to the Sunway Pyramid on the last few days and I went ice skating for the first time ever.  I loved ice skating and I could have stayed there for hours, it reminded me of rollerskating.  I was really good at it!    I'm looking forward to going back there on our next 'staycation.'

The New Year!

Every year, I make New Year's resolutions.  This year I decided to make two, one for school and one for Boy Scouts.  My two New Year's resolutions are to get good grades in all of my subjects and to earn my Second Class Rank in BoyScouts.

I hope to get good grades by always being prepared for class.  Being prepared for class means always having my homework done and in on time and also being ready to discuss what we read as well.  It also means that I will come to class with all the supplies necessary to do my work.  By staying on top of my school work, I hope my grades will reflect my hard work.

Last month I earned my Tenderfoot Rank in Boy Scouts.  When I went to Scoutmaster's Conference,  I realized that I was only a few requirements away from getting my next rank, Second Class.  I will work hard to complete these remaining tasks, so I can earn my next rank by May 2011.

Having New Year's resolutions is a fun exercise.  It reminds me to set goals and it gives me milestones to look forward to and strive for.  I enjoy ticking off the box when I have completed my resolutions.

Working with a partner on Literature Circle Reflection!

1.The benefits of working with a classmate.

Some of the benefits of working with a partner are: it is easier to accomplish an assignment because the work is divided among the group members/ your partner. A second reason is, if a group member did not complete his or her reading assignment the other group member can fill him or her in on what they missed. The final reason that it is good to have a partnership is more creative problem solving. What I mean by that is, because no two people see the same problem the same way, approaching a problem with a partner can lead to a broader a-ray of possible solutions or answers.

2. Challenges / obstacles which you overcame (tried to overcome).

Some challenges and obstacles I had to overcome during literature circles are: trying to finish all of my homework before I do my lit circles then make sure if I have time to rest and relax, making sure that I have read the amount of chapters given to us and make sure I had read  the chapters that they gave us and i'm going to school with the assignment completed and ready to turn in. Obviously, if a group member did not do their part in the project, and the other group member did but was not around to see his partner, then that group member is in big trouble. Becasue he didn't do his work so then he will let his partner's grade go down because they get grade as partnership so the other person might have done a good job but if the other person didn't do their part of the work
the people grading would just gradde the group with a low grade because someone in you group didn't do their work and now you will also get blamed for it,

3. New understandings that you gained about the novel.

Finally, some new understandings that I have gained about the novel. One new understanding is that the flow of the book is not linear, in other words the story shifts between the present and past, but topics can change fluidly, even on the same page. Another new understanding that has changed my perspective on the book is that the main character is a normal teenage boy named Brian who was forced to forage in the woods of Canada in order to survive after a plane crash. This book is adventurous and also kind of sad because Brian's parents were divorced because his mother, two
months earlier, cheated on Brian's Dad. I personally find this novel very interesting because a good/bad problem leads to a very good story.
